Dear Dr McBride,
"I write this card to you to express my thanks and appreciation for the professional hard and caring works which have been done by you and your colleagues to make such a wonderful implant denture for me. I have never enjoyed chewing and eating since I had dentures, as I do now. I will never be able to thank you enough!"

Implants are a wonderful alternative to missing teeth.  Whether you are missing one or all of your teeth, implants give you options that weren't available when your parents were young.

Dental implants are the best alternative to natural teeth.  Eating, smiling and speaking are as normal as with natural teeth.  Implants are excellent for supporting crowns, bridges and dentures.  They also help to preserve gum tissue and jaw bone.

Dr McBride is highly trained in implant surgery and restoration and is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry--AAID, the leading implant association since 1951.  www.aaid-implant.org  The AAID is the sponsoring organization of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry which has conferred the Diplomate status to Dr McBride after successful rigorous written and oral exams. www.aboi.org

Patients with implants experience normal eating and speaking, enhanced appearance and if used with a denture, superior retention.

Process:  Implants are artificial tooth roots that are anchored into or on top of the jaw bone.  After an initial period of healing, they are used to secure first temporary and then final "teeth".  The entire procedure from evaluation to completion usually takes 6-18 months.  Dr McBride can tell you more precisely after an initial evaluation.  The work is done right in our office.

Suitable Candidates:  Dental implants are beneficial for patients in their teens to their senior years and can be used to correct anything from a single tooth to full mouth replacement.

Assured Safety:  All implant devices are regulated by the federal government and have been in routine use for over two decades.  Dr McBride has chalked up over 800 Post Doctorate Credit Hours in implant surgery and restoration.  You couldn't be in better hands!

Single Tooth Implants
A single tooth implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root.  If you are missing a single tooth, one implant and a crown can replace it.  The crown is cemented or screwed onto the implant and held firmly in place.  A single-tooth implant is fixed, meaning only your dentist can remove it.

Bridges Supported by Implants
A dental implant bridge uses implants instead of natural teeth to support a bridge.  Using a dental implant bridge can be helpful when the surrounding teeth are not the best supports for a traditional bridge.  Like a traditional bridge, a dental implant bridge is fixed, meaning only your dentist can remove it. Dental implant bridges are commonly used in the lower jaw to accompany traditional dentures in the upper jaw.

Implant Supported Dentures
Implants act as an anchor for your dentures.  Instead of the dentures resting on your gums, they clip securely onto the implants, which are anchored into the bone.  Your dentures can still be removed, but no longer require adhesives to stay in place.  With denture supported implants, your dentures won't slip or click when you speak and will allow you to eat many foods you may not have been able to with traditional dentures.  There are other implant options available which allow your denture to be completely fixed.

Immediate Load Implants
Some patients that have enough bone volume and density can have teeth placed immediately on new implants.  This is called immediate load, and shortened treatment time is a benefit.  Temporary, then final "teeth" apply to this procedure also.

Custom Endosteal Dental Implants (or Custom Cast Implant)

Custom Endosteal implants are custom, cast titanium devices that are made to fit only one patient and are placed over the bone instead of in the bone. Custom dental implants have few limitations and can be used even with the most damaged or deteriorated bone.  In most cases, Dr McBride can create a custom dental implant to fit the damaged bone.

Custom cast dental implants are made using a three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) scan of the patient’s jaw. A duplicate of the patient’s jawbone is made using the digital data from the CT scan. This model is then used to construct custom cast titanium implants. The dental implants are then fabricated to exactly fit the model and coated with synthetic bone, assuring that the titanium casting will adapt perfectly. Synthetic bone is an exact duplicate of the mineral in natural bones. This coating helps assure the bonding of bone to the dental implants within six weeks.

The titanium dental implant castings are subjected to 10 million degree heat in conditions of outer space. This plasma cleaning process guarantees that our patients receive the cleanest possible dental implants. The implants are coated with the patient's blood and serum, which bonds to the super clean surface. A plasma-cleaned dental implant that has been coated with the patient's blood proteins is indistinguishable from the patient. The biocompatible implant is placed using special bone grafting procedures, which assure that the implant will be bonded and enclosed in bone. The healing regimen also assures that the implant will heal encapsulated in bone.  Because the bone grafting procedure is part of the placement of dental implants, a badly damaged jawbone can also be rebuilt at the same time. The patient can and does have teeth placed immediately when this system is used. Dr McBride’s patients are rarely without teeth; the dental implants are used to provide an immediate foundation for a denture or bridge.

Custom cast dental implants have been developed by diplomates of the American Board of Implant Dentistry and others, based on proven procedures originated more than 50 years ago. This new advanced technique is used by only a few clinicians with special training far above and beyond that taught by dental schools or specialty programs. The American Board of Oral Implantology / Implant Dentistry is the only organization which tests knowledge of this dental implant system. www.aboi.org

We highly recommend that anyone who is contemplating custom dental implants seek out a Board Certified Implantologist, one who will not only be trained but also tested in the use of these custom devices.

The human histology of this type of implant was reviewed at the University of Alabama. "This implant is the best result I have ever seen with any implant," said Dr. Jack Lemons, head of the Department of Dental Implant Materials.  The custom dental implant in its original form was called a superiosteal implant; it was the first system approved by the American Dental Association. The FDA has approved custom dental implant systems since 1954. The original system was cast from chrome cobalt, not titanium.
